One Panel. No Seams. Nothing Overhead to Leak.

Every other awning in this category is stitched together from multiple canvas panels. Every stitch line is a place water can find its way through — and it always finds it at 2am, directly over your swag.

The 180 XT MAX doesn't have one.

The canopy is cut from a single ultra-wide panel of 315gsm ripstop polycotton, made possible by the wide-loom process at our manufacturing facility. There is no seam above your head. Not a taped one. Not a welded one. None. It's the only 180° awning on the Australian market that can say it.

The canvas carries a 1500mm waterhead and a UV-resistant treatment, and it's pre-treated against mould and mildew for the wet run up the Cape. Wet it down before first use so the poly-cotton core-spun thread swells and seals the stitching at the frame, and it'll shrug off tropical downpours and four seasons of Australian sun.

8.53m² — The Biggest Shade in the 180° Class

8.53 square metres across a 5.84 metre span. More usable shade than any other 180° freestanding awning sold in Australia, and roughly a third more than the budget wings.

What that buys you at camp: a full kitchen with prep space, six or more people out of the sun, room to lay swags end to end, and enough cover to work on the rig in the rain without wearing it.

The span runs straight down the flank of your vehicle. No wrap-around arc crowding your barn doors, drop-down tailgate or canopy door swing — so if you run a slide-out kitchen or a drop-down table off the back, the 180 leaves that access completely clear.

Truly Freestanding. Not Pole-Assisted.

Plenty of awnings call themselves freestanding, then ship with uprights you're expected to use the moment the wind gets above a whisper.

The 180 XT MAX carries its own load. Two fully trussed arms sit at 90° at each end, with reinforced aluminium arms front and rear that fold parallel to the vehicle. The arms run a honeycomb cross-section through their full length — torsional strength without the weight penalty, and gusseted where the loads concentrate.

You get an open, pole-free space underneath. Nothing to trip over in the dark. Nothing to re-peg when you shift the chairs. And no dramas deploying on rock shelf, sand or hard-packed gravel where pegs simply won't bite.

Setup is under 60 seconds, solo. Unzip the bag, swing the arms, done. Pull up for a quick feed on a remote track and you're in the shade before the kettle's on.

Stainless Steel Hardware, Because Salt Air Doesn't Negotiate

The 180 XT MAX runs stainless steel hinges on the front and rear sections, paired with B-Tech™ Alloy powder-coated aircraft-grade aluminium extrusions. Double-stitched seams throughout. Reinforced stress points at every attachment. Triple-reinforced canvas sleeves where the canvas meets the arm ends, which is exactly where cheaper awnings tear first.

Salt spray on the Ningaloo run. Red dust through the Simpson. A thousand kilometres of corrugations shaking every fastener you own. This is the hardware that comes out the other side.

Polycotton, Not Polyester — And That's Deliberate

Polycotton breathes. Under a polyester canopy at 40°C the air goes still and hot — you're standing in a greenhouse. Polycotton exchanges air, regulates temperature underneath, and doesn't drum like a tin roof the moment rain arrives. It ages better under sustained UV, and it feels like proper touring canvas because it is.

At 315gsm it's the heaviest polycotton in the freestanding 180° class. You pay for that in weight — 26kg, against roughly 18–24kg for the lighter competition. It's an honest trade, and it's the right one for a rig that's already carrying a rooftop tent and needs gear measured in decades, not seasons.

Modular by Design: The Ecosystem Is the Point

A 50mm looped Velcro strip runs the full internal edge of the canopy. Add the 180 XT MAX Wall Kitsor the universal canvas and mesh walls and your awning becomes a room — a windbreak on an exposed headland, or a fully enclosed shelter with somewhere dry to cook when the weather closes in.

Pair it with an AX27, LX27 Gen 2, TX27 or TX27 MAX rooftop tent using the optional Awning-to-Tent bracket set for a tight, low roofline. Run two 180 XT MAX awnings either side of a trailer or canopy and you've covered an entire base camp.

This is a shelter system you keep building on.

Usage Guidance & Recommendations

• It is recommended that the front and rear non trussed arms are secured using the included guy ropes and pegs to prevent excessive upward movement in all weather conditions.
• Use guy ropes attached to 1-tonne webbing straps between the awning arms to manage water runoff and prevent pooling in heavy rain.
• Avoid leaving up during snowfall to prevent canvas stretching.

The Bush Company or one of our stockists can assemble and install your awning, but if you choose to install the awning yourself please make sure that you have done the due diligence on your intended installation to ensure that it does not create any safety issues and ensure that you follow standard safety precautions when undertaking the install.

Using & Caring For Your Awning

Before Use:

We recommend that new awnings are thoroughly wet down before first use. This will ensure that your awning performs well in wet weather by allowing the poly/cotton core spun thread and canvas to swell ensuring the takeup of any potential leaks in the stitching.

Deploying & Packing Away:

• When unzipping the awning, make sure the zippers are right to the top of the bag at each end and that the bottom corners of the bag are not caught on the awning frame.
• When deploying your awning if the canvas seems excessively tight, STOP and check that the canvas is not caught on the hinge mechanism and that it has not slid too far one way in the sail-track on the awning frame.
• When packing the awning away, ensure that the canvas is not pinched between the awning arms especially close to the hinge mechanism.
