2 Heavy DutyAdjustable L Brackets. One fitment bracket must be attached to the stainless steel head stock at the hinged end of the awning. The second bracket must be mounted no less than 1.3m /4′ 3″ from the bracket at the hinged end.

It is recommended that the rear non trussed arm is secured using the included guy ropes and pegs to prevent excessive upward movement in all weather conditions.

Use guy ropes attached to 1-tonne webbing straps between the awning arms to manage water runoff and prevent pooling in heavy rain.

Avoid leaving up during snowfall to prevent canvas stretching.

Using & Caring For Your Awning

Before Use:

We recommend that new awnings are thoroughly wet down before first use. This will ensure that your awning performs well in wet weather by allowing the poly/cotton core spun thread and canvas to swell ensuring the takeup of any potential leaks in the stitching.

Deploying & Packing Away:

When unzipping the awning, make sure the zippers are right to the top of the bag at each end and that the bottom corners of the bag are not caught on the awning frame.
When deploying your awning if the canvas seems excessively tight, STOP and check that the canvas is not caught on the hinge mechanism and that it has not slid too far one way in the sail-track on the awning frame.
When packing the awning away, ensure that the canvas is not pinched between the awning arms especially close to the hinge mechanism.

Cleaning Canvas & PVC Bag:

To clean canvas use a soft brush and cold water.
Do not expose to petrol, oils or harsh chemicals.
The PVC bag van be cleaned with standard car wash cleaning solution.

Cleaning mould:

Your awning canvas is pre-treated with mould and mildew resistance, but if mould/mildew does occur please follow these steps:

Allow mould to dry.
Remove surface mould with stiff bristle brush.
Vacuum the area.
Treat area with Oil of Clove spray (diluted spray can be purchased or can be mixed using a few drops of oil into a spray bottle of water).

Regular Maintenance & Checks:

Like any accessory used in extreme conditions regular maintenance is required to ensure the longevity of your awning, including:

Inspect awning hinges to identify any bolts that may need re-tightening.
Ensure that awning canvas is correctly located in the sail-rack on the backing frame to eliminate excessive tension on the canvas.
Inspect the attachment of the canvas to the ends of the awning arms.
Inspect canvas to identify any wear marks caused by incorrect packing of the canvas.

Is the 270 XT Awning Mk2 freestanding?

es. Once mounted to your vehicle, no poles or ground supports are needed. Guy ropes and pegs are included and should be used to secure the rear non-trussed arm in all conditions.

How much shade does it give?

8m² (86 sq ft) of 270° wraparound coverage across the side and rear of your vehicle.

How heavy is the awning?

What's the difference between the 270 XT Mk2 and the 270 XT MAX Mk2?

The XT has a single pivot, 8m² (86 sq ft) of coverage, weighs 27.8kg (61.3 lb), sets up in under 30 seconds and fits racks from 1.4m (4'7"). The MAX has two hinge points and a forward-folding front section for 12m² (129 sq ft), weighs 33.5kg (73.9 lb) and needs 1.9m (6'3") of rack. Choose the XT for speed of set-up/pack down and lighter payload; the MAX for maximum coverage around the vehicle.

Does this awning need poles?

No. Poles are only recommended when running the optional awning wall kits, and those poles come with the wall kit.

Left hand or right hand fitment — which do I need?

Choose the side you want the awning to deploy from. Most tourers fit it to the side their camp kitchen or canopy door opens onto. On a right hand drive vehicle (like Australia), the Left Hand awning mounts to the passenger side.

What's the warranty?

2 years conditional.

Can I install it myself?

Yes. At 27.8kg (61.3 lb) you'll want a second set of hands for lifting and bolting. Fitting instructions are in our Guides & Instructions section, or any Bush Company stockist can fit it for you.

Are brackets included?

Yes — two heavy-duty adjustable stainless L-brackets ship with the awning.

What roof rack do I need?

Any rack or load bars giving at least 1.4m (4'7") between mounting points. Two adjustable L-brackets are included — one on the stainless headstock at the hinged end, the second no closer than 1.4m from it.

I did a ridiculous amount of research in choosing the 270XT, and it has not disappointed. There are a few slightly larger and lighter options on the market, but when the wind is howling and its bucketing it down you want the strongest on the market every time. The whole thing is absolute quality, thick canvas, a single seam so it does not leak, well thought out wear points, hard wearing powder coat and quality welds, the list goes on. The customer service from initial queries about bracket positioning to after sales contact has been exceptional. Freight was quick and reasonable. I have just got back from a 5 day trip to the Holland Track and it was up morning, noon and night, every night without a worry. We measured 35kph winds on the last day, with a few gusts of 50kph and it did not falter. It was easy to see the difference in quality and stability when placed directly next to a cheaper Chinese awning, 20kph winds had them stopping what they were doing and reaching to grab the awning but the Bush Company did not move. The first time I had it up I actually could not believe how strong the arms are when you grab them on the ends, I thought something else must be holding this up, but when they move a little in the videos know they are giving it a decent tug. Super cool underneath the thick canvas too. I've retrofitted mine with dimmable LED lights and a touch switch which was quite easy to do, and also some stick on Velcro dots to hold the straps out of the way from the doors (a sewn in one would be better though- an easy upgrade for future revisions). It's actually very reasonable in price when you consider you have to pay $340 for decent brackets for just about every other awning on the market, the adjustable stainless brackets provided are definitely worth keeping. The only thing I was a little disappointed at was the PVC bag, in all the videos the canvas bag did seem like a great option considering how its roomy, breathable, double wear points etc, but a few phone calls later I realise it was a genuine upgrade as the PVC wears a lot better overall and does not leach onto the vehicle like the older canvas bags. A month or so old and its no longer super shiny and plastic looking so it now looks perfectly fine on the car, it was also a little tight to fold up at the start, but starting to wear in nicely now and I can get it zipped up quite easily. I was also a little thrown off by the backing plate, as it is now an all solid extruded aluminium backing plate rather than the welded aluminum frame in all of the pictures- I am not too sure at whether this is an upgrade or downgrade (any changes in weight/strength etc?) as there's not really any information on it, but it did throw me off as there were no pictures, videos or mention of that changing along the way- it possibly should have been marketed as a mk3 as its quite a significant change. FWIW I weighed the awning at around 25kg by itself, and 3x brackets were about 5kg, so 30kg all up if you go for 3x brackets. Still glad I chose the original XT and not the max for my uses, as there's just something about its simplicity, and its so rock solid. Being a solo/duo camper I only need the space the regular XT provides, but we did manage to fit 5x guys under it to get out of the sun and rain on several occasions. Overall a few tiny gripes but I thoroughly recommend the awning and would not hesitate to buy again.
