Twelve square metres. That's the number that matters. The 270 XT MAX Awning Mk2 deploys 12m² of UV- and water-resistant shade across a 6067mm x 3100mm footprint, wrapping your vehicle from the front door right around the rear — and it does it without a single upright pole touching the ground.
You're not pegging out a tarp. You're rolling into camp, swinging two trussed arms into position, and getting on with the fishing.
What makes the MAX different from the 270 XT Mk2
This is the question worth answering before you spend. Both are freestanding 270° awnings. The difference is in the hinges.
The 270 XT Mk2 runs a single pivot point — fast, simple, 8m², and brilliant for solo and duo touring. The 270 XT MAX Mk2 runs two hinge points and a forward-folding front section. That second hinge is what pushes coverage out to 12m² and lets the canvas reach further around the back of the vehicle, clearing canopy doors and covering a full rear kitchen setup.
More shade, more rear coverage, more room under it. The trade-offs are honest ones: 33.5kg on your roof instead of 27.8kg, and a 1.9m minimum bracket spacing instead of 1.4m. If your rack is shorter than 1.9m or your roof payload is tight, the 270 XT Mk2 is the smarter buy. The B-Tech™ Alloy trussed arms carry the load themselves. That's the whole point of a truss — the geometry does the work, so the canvas stays tensioned and the frame stays put without ground support. Setup is a one-person job in under 60 seconds. Pack-down is the same in reverse, and the oversized PVC bag means you're not wrestling canvas back into a sleeve while the weather closes in.
When it does blow up, peg it out. The 270 XT MAX Mk2 is rated to 50km/h gusts when correctly pegged and guyed, and it ships with the guy ropes and pegs to do it.

The canvas is pre-treated for UV stability and mould and mildew resistance, and has a 1500mm waterhead ratingwith triple-stitched sleeves and reinforced attachment points at every load-bearing corner.
Wet it down before your first trip. The poly-cotton core spun thread swells and seals the stitch holes — a five-minute job that sets the canvas up for years of four-season use.
Build it out with walls
A 50mm Velcro loop strip runs the full internal edge, ready for The Bush Company's canvas and mesh wall kits.
Run one wall as a windbreak on the exposed side. Run mesh to keep the sandflies out on a Cape York evening. Or close the whole thing in and turn 12m² of shade into a proper enclosed room with a view. The modular ecosystem is the point — you buy the awning once and shape it to the trip.
Mounting to your rig
The 270 XT MAX Mk2 ships with three heavy-duty adjustable L-brackets. One mounts to the stainless steel headstock at each end, with the third going in the middle for support across the span.
You need a minimum of 1.9m (6'3") between your front and rear mounting points. Most full-length platform racks, load bars and canopy racks clear this easily; some systems (the ARB base rack, for example) need additional hardware. The packed profile is 2300mm long x 230mm high, so it sits low and tucks inside a standard roof line without overhang.
Running a Bush Company rooftop tent? The optional Awning To Tent brackets mount the awning directly to the tent for a tidy, low-profile touring setup.

Usage guidance
- Secure the front and rear non-trussed arms with the supplied guy ropes and pegs in all conditions to prevent upward movement.
- In heavy rain, run guy ropes off 1-tonne webbing straps between the arms to shed water and stop pooling.
- Don't leave it deployed during snowfall — wet snow load stretches canvas.
- Wet the canvas down thoroughly before first use.
- Be sure to check the care and maintenance instructions.

Unloading by hand is not permitted by the couriers due to health and safety regulations. If, as is usually the case, you do not have a forklift available at your home address, we can arrange for your tent or canopy to be delivered to the nearest FEDEX freight depot/agent for collection from there.
Business Delivery
If you provide a commercial premises address for the delivery of your rooftop tent or canopy, a forklift must be available at the delivery point and truck access. Unloading by hand is not permitted by the couriers due to health and safety regulations.

Damage In Transit
If you or the person responsible for receiving your order does not check that the item has arrived in good condition prior to accepting it, The Bush Company cannot be held responsible for any claim for damage in transit.
When your order shipment arrives, it is essential that you check it thoroughly for any signs of damage before signing to accept the shipment. This means checking the exterior box and if there are any signs of damage externally then the box should be opened, and the product examined for any signs of damage to the product itself. This needs to be done before you sign anything to say that the item has been received, the driver needs to wait until you are satisfied. If you are not satisfied with the condition of the item, then you are entitled to refuse delivery and the courier will have to return the product to us.
If you do not follow this procedure and it turns out that the item has been damaged in transit, then there is no way for The Bush Company to claim on the freight insurance to cover any damage. If you sign anything and are not satisfied you must ensure that this is noted by the driver in writing and obtain a copy that is signed by the driver.

Yes. Because of the 33.5kg (73.9 lb) weight you'll want a second set of hands for lifting and bolting. Fitting instructions are available in our Guides & Instructions section, or any Bush Company stockist can fit it for you.

What roof racks is it compatible with?
Any rack or set of load bars giving at least 1.9m (6'3") between your front and rear mounting points. Three adjustable L-brackets are included; the third mounts centrally for span support. Some systems, such as the ARB base rack, need additional hardware.

The Bush Company or one of our stockists can install your awning, but if you choose to install the awning yourself please make sure that you have done the due diligence to ensure that it does not create any safety issues. Please also ensure you follow all standard safety precautions when undertaking the install.
